About
Mat Warger, Founder
I spent years building software for companies that could afford large teams — banks, theater chains, asset managers, enterprise contact centers. The work was good. The teams were big. The budgets were comfortable.
Small businesses don't have any of that. They have the same problems (manual processes, scattered data, customers falling through cracks) but a fraction of the budget and zero patience for consultants who bill by the hour and deliver slide decks.
That's why I started Farsight. I wanted to take what I learned building at scale and apply it where it's actually hard: small teams with tight budgets who need things to work the first time.
What I actually do
I write code. I ship systems. I don't hand you a strategy document and wish you luck.
Every engagement starts with understanding your workflows: where time gets wasted, where mistakes happen, where AI can actually help. Then I build it, test it, document it, and train your team to run it without me.
The stack depends on what fits: React, Node, Elixir, PHP, Java. I pick based on your existing systems, not my preferences.
15+ years of delivery
I've worked on enterprise and growth-stage teams. Here's what that looked like.
Selected work
- Enterprise contact-center software: TypeScript adoption and shared libraries
- Regional bank platforms: compliance-first delivery and modernization
- National theater chain: CMS integrations and component systems
- Asset management firm: data-heavy reporting workflows
What I'm good at
- Full-stack architecture across complex systems
- Training teams on modern practices
- Modernizing legacy systems without breaking everything
Why small businesses
Enterprise clients have options. They can hire Deloitte or a team of five contractors. A plumbing company with 15 employees can't. A regional healthcare practice can't.
Most AI consulting firms won't take a $10k project. I will, because that $10k project might save your office manager 12 hours a week. That's real money for a small business.
AI approach
I use LLMs where they actually improve the work, and I build in checks so they don't quietly make things worse.
Where AI helps
- Codebase analysis, test generation, refactor diffs
- Knowledge retrieval for internal content
- Workflow assistants with safety gates
Guardrails
- Privacy and data minimization
- Evaluation harnesses and safety tests
- Human review and audit logging
